You don't need to be an HP fan to read this. You just have to be a woman. Even men would find it an educational read.

Title: Five Women Who Hate Fleur Delacour
Author: [livejournal.com profile] snegurochka_lee
Characters: Gabrielle, Narcissa, Molly, Tonks, Minerva, Luna. Oh, and Fleur. ;)
Rating: PG-13 (possibly R for some strong language)
Words: ~7,300
Content: DH-compliant
Summary: She was beautiful, intelligent, talented, successful – and not very nice about it. Clearly, other women must hate her.

One of the most powerful commentaries on feminism, combining character study and social observation, that I've ever read in the HP fandom. It amazes me how deftly she deals with the many perceptions of the women in HP without succumbing to character bashing. If this sort of text were made requried reading for every young girl, the women's movement would be aeons ahead by now. For this is the kind of story that teaches us to be better people, and kinder to one another.

Once in a while, you find a fic that's warm and beautiful and unpretentiously, smoothly written. It's doesn't leave you in awe, but it does warm the cockles of your heart and leave a tear in your eye.

Title: Of Pride and Prejudices
Author: [livejournal.com profile] araminta_lupin
Pairing: Teddy Lupin/ Victoire Weasley
Rating: PG
Summary: Victoire Weasley is seventeen years old, fresh from her summer vacation is Paris and feeling very grown-up  now that she's going out with  the best-looking boy in her year. She wasn't expecting a reality check delivered by her best friend Teddy when he takes exception to her essay on  the dangers of werewolves. COMPLETE.

I am in love with the characterizations of every single person who appears in this story - OCs and all. Victoire is your typical teenage girl trying to live up to her image as the eldest child of the family, and yet struggling to overcome the usual pitfalls of growing up along the way. She's obsessed with her hair and clothes, and has all the usual insecurities of a young girl who wants to be popular, but shows her deeper nature whenever it comes to her friends and family. Teddy Lupin is a wonderful mix of the best and the worst of his parents, and it's so easy to fall in love with him as Victoire does. The chapters fly by rapidly and leaves you with the sense of having enjoyed a work that has been meticulously and lovingly crafted in every aspect.

This story is the only chaptered fic I can find by the author, although I enjoy anything she writes. Red Hair is a prequel one-shot to Pride and Prejudices that I would strongly recommend.

This is the most hysterical thing I've read all week:

Constellation by Emibella
Rating: R
Summary: It's the wedding night and Edward is dealing with...performance anxiety. Or rather, how to keep from crushing his wife to death. The Cullens, of course, have their own unique brands of expertise on the subject.

Growing Up Cullen, all the way, mateys!

I have discovered magnificence. In three parts.

Title: Arc of the Pendulum by [livejournal.com profile] brummell
Pairing: Harry/Draco
Rating: NC-17
Summary: After his father casts a mysterious curse on Harry Potter, Draco Malfoy is forced to try to make things right. Based on The Beauty and the Beast.

I have read many slash adaptations of Beauty and the Beast in both SPN and HP fandoms, but this one trumps them all. The utter seamlessness of it, the raw emotion interspersed with unexpected moments of hilarity and the way it still manages to stay true to canon characterization. All without a hint of cheese. I must say, I read this in anticipation of the sex, but as well done as it was, the actual story eclipsed it. Which is saying something.

Go read!

...and can I have a whiff too?

My interest in fandom things have officially been reinvoked.

SPN fic Rec: Everything I Know About Marine Biology I Learned From My Brother.

I implore you to read it, SPN fan or not. Not only will you crack a rib laughing (dear God, the pictures!) but it is also rather singularly educational.

I sometimes wish MY brain was that addled. I'd never get bored. Why wasn't I dropped on my head more as a kid? This was very remiss of my parents. I could've been a literary genius like Kroki!

Dear people who like reading any kind of HP fic.

Meet Lady Altair.

She is only 20 years old and writes some of the best HP fic known to man.

Please proceed to read every one of her stories, even though you don't care about the characters/ hate the characters/ is dubious about the premise. Your reservations won't matter past the first chapter, because you won't have them anymore. She doesn't write slash (more's the pity) and she writes as close to canon as possible.

I shall personally rec the following:

Chase This Light: COMPLETE. The story of how Draco Malfoy fell in love with his wife. I've always loved fanon Draco, but this one characterization is firmly rooted in canon. I started out as a person who denied the very existence of Astoria Malfoy, but by the end of the seven chapters I'm totally shipping them.

Must be Genetic: As the spoilt daughter of an award-winning boxer, October "Toby" Dursley knows exactly how to put bullies like Scorpius Malfoy in their place. It is rather curious however, that the girl who looks so much like Lily Evans doesn't have a lick of potions talent, a fact that is speedily remedied by a chance encounter with a portrait that is very handy with the subject...(LOLZ and Awws galore!)

Eight in the Morning On second thought, Aurors Harry Potter and Ron Weasley would much rather be dealing with brawling witches with itchy wands than at home dealing with hormonal wives and monster children. A one-shot purely for lulz.

For Now The Order of the Phoenix say good-bye as each comrade falls. A haunting one-shot that should not be read without some industrial-sized Kleenex handy.

And now I'm off to read some more. The wise among you will follow suit.
