Being Driven Up The Wall By Insatiable Post-DH Fanfic Cravings.

I’m suffering from a plot bunny infestation of the worst kind. Deathly Hallows is a fanfic writers goldmine, and now I want nothing more than to shut myself up and start writing a dozen different chaptered fanfics at the same time. And I have barely time to write one, let alone five!

 

Catch 22, people. There’s no way I can start writing fanfic at this juncture, but I’ll probably explode if I don’t. I want to write my next gen story. I want to write about Teddy Lupin. I want to write a fic about the dead watching the living, as they continue with life in the aftermath of the war. I want to do a story on George’s healing process. I want to write a story about the life of the Trio from the ages of 18 to 29. I want to write a an adult Harry adventure, featuring a resurgence of the Hallows. I want to write about Ginny’s sixth year at Hogwarts, under the Carrows regime of terror. I want to write one-shots. I want FANFICTION, damn it!

 

But most of the fansites, like Sugarquill and Phoenix song are not archiving new post-DH stories till at least the 30^th, and although I’ve found a few interesting one-shots already on Schnoogle, it isn’t nearly enough to appease my fanfic craving. I’m being sustained on a steady trickle of DH one-shots popping up on random LJ communities.  Doggone it, people, WRITE!

I think the idea going around about what Neville, Luna, and Ginny were doing at Hogwarts for Year 7 while the Trio was off doing their thing is a great suggestion for fanfiction.

And with a 19 year gap between Year 7 and the Epilogue, I bet a host of people write long stories that cover how things go from where DH ends to the Epilogue. Sort of like 19 years of "fill in the blanks," right?

Yep, although who's to stop at just nineteen years? *g* Oh, I can't wait for Jo's live interview on Monday, although I'm not sure I'm going to follow what she says about the characters as irrevertible canon. For me, canon ends on chapter thirty six. Not that I'm dissing the epilogue as wholly as some of them are, it's just that none of MY characters are going to be named "Albus Severus", "Hugo" or Scorpius. Scorpius! How am I supposed to marry my darling Rose off to a guy called "Scorpius"?

And don't you think the implied "Rose/Scorpius" relationship in the epilogue was Jo's parting bone thrown at the D/G and Dramione fans?

I see your on Lori Summer's friend list. Yes, I do stalk her. Was that how you found me? And you seem to have a mighty interesting journal. Mind if I friend you? =D

Well, I figured the fun would be to see all the different ways people get the story to go from the end of DH to how the characters are configured in teh Epilogue. There's many ways that could happen, and they'll be as varied as the diversity of HP fans' minds, right?

I'm not sure what JKR may have been implying there at the end with those kids, but it struck me that the wizarding families all seem to be so closely knit together, in a breeding sort of way!

Oh, Lori's page, yes! I've read her fanfiction since 2003, it's my favorite. I've been following links for the past two days to try to read everything I can online about what people thought of the book, so that must be how I found yours. (I read all your DH posts, though have yet to write my own for LJ, which has been sparse in recent months.) You must have posted something there that had me click through to yours, I hope that's ok.

I'm still tossed as to how much I liked the book, but I liked it enough that it's a choice between DH and GoF being my favorite.

I know it's a trivial part of your post and not HP-related, but I was pleased to see you noted that the swastika was a Hindu symbol long before it was used by Hitler. So much art and imagery from that culture cannot be displayed in the USA because everyone is so afraid of that symbol here, and it's just because they've got no clue.

There's a very interesting fic that's been begun on Schnoogle, called "Out of the Shadow" with Al Potter as the central character. In it, Albus, desperate to get out of his father's shadow, decides to be put in Slytherin. It's very well written, although I can't agree with some of the minor points, such as Lavendar Brown having married Draco, Cho Chang becoming Transfiguration teacher and Percy helping run Weasley's Wizarding Wheezes. I wait to see where that goes. So far its the only next gen story that's captured my interest - but then it hasn't yet been a week!

Yeah, they seem so inter-connected at every level, tha families. It makes the wizarding society feel too self-contained and concentrated. I'm not sure I like that.

I agree with you about Lori - her fanfic is the most charismatic I've ever read, and I'm not even an H/Hr shipper! I do hope she posts chapter 13 of HWTF. I'm always thrilled to come across lurkers, btw!

There's no denying that I loved DH to pieces, but even I can't decide which one is my favourite - PoA or DH. DH was the most exciting, but PoA was so effing brilliant, plot-wise.

About the Swastika - well, I've always known it since I'm from South Asia but I would have thought more people had got enlightened about cultural symbology ever since the advent of Dan Brown. That guy has to bo good for SOMETHING. =D Is it really not that common knowledge in the West?
