The Birthday Poem
Sep. 25th, 2005 09:01 pmVery tired and fagged out today. Hate trips. Bloody euphemisms for, "lets- sacrifice- free- time - to-pack - everything- but- what- we- need- squabble-in-back- seat- and -come -back -feeling -like- hit- and- run -victim- with -multiple- bags- of -laundry". Bah.
Found this though. Old birthday poem written to my best friend. I think it's about two years old. Cheered me right up it did. It's riddled with in-jokes and nick names and most of it probably won't make any sense to anyone except myself and my friend, but I feel like posting it nevertheless.
Here it is:
The Birthday Poem"
O’ Princess Peartree,
Princess, my dear!
Why are you a-sulking,
In your lofty sphere?
I plead you, entreat you,
O’ throw down a smile,
Past sins forgiven,
Play with me a while.
Cast to the gay wind,
All your wheezes and woes
Petty frowns and heartache,
Over princes lovelorn
The earth is unmoving
For one day and one night,
So come take my hand,
Let’s dance in our starlight.
Where are your princes,
And where are your knights?
Show me your castles,
Your warriors and wights.
Release your enchantments,
From their prison houses
Of tipsy pen lettered
Books with worn covers
The fires do burn,
The wild beasts do roam,
The forest is listening;
We are not alone
But sit down beside me
And spin me your tales,
Of far-away islands
Of white sand and whales,
Of homes with red roses
And wee fairy goats
And the bright-eyed young lassie
Whom I miss the most
One single hour,
Of shared memory and sweet mirth,
Between two dear friends,
To ridicule the world,
And evoke the lost echoes,
Of times now gone by
And re-learn where the sweetness
Of true friendship lies.

The earth is the third planet away from the sun, chocolate is merely ambrosia by another name, and Holly is quite bonkers. You're just bonkers in a very good way. Don't even think about turning sane! I'd have to unFriend you.
Nutty people are the only people you can write interesting poems about, anyways. In case you hadn't noticed, I was actually paying tribute to how crazy my friend and I, both are. So I'd say you're a prime candidate for having a poem written about, yourself!
