ladymirth: (LMAO)

True fact the first: Me and my little brother is gonna come down with the mumps. My sister has it, (although apparently the milder variety, since she was immunized) and I will probably have it, since I have been a walking dartboard for stray viruses ever since 1987, and my brother will certainly have it since a) I accidentally wiped him down with my sister's towel this evening and b) he has not been immunized. This last was a new reveal to me.

Me: "Why on earth didn't you give him the MMR? Everybody gets the MMR!"
Mum: "He got fever and had a fit after the first one."
Me: "Well, why didn't you give him the rest once he got a bit older?"
Mum: "Well, I heard stuff about MMR causing autism and stuff so I figured I should let it be."
Me: "But you only heard that stuff about MMR after he was diagnosed with autism! Ever heard of stable doors and bolting horses?"
Mum: "I have no idea what you are talking about."
Me: *headdesk*

So look forward to mumps-related posts in the near future.

Me: (Feeling my cheeks nervously) "I think I'm coming down with it too, Choots. I can feel my face swelling."
Chuti: (looks closely) "Nah, it's just a wart. Or a real mother of a pimple."

!!!!

True fact the second: I DO NOT GET WARTS! I didn't even get zits in secondary school! Well, not that many. Of course it's just a mosquito-bite.

True fact the third: Sisters suck out loud.

Here be the other tru fax, which are kinda useless trivia that comes in useful at parties. You know, to fill in those awkward pauses when trying to make conversation with people you've never met before and hopefully will probably never meet again.

You: "So, nice weather we're having."
Them: "Much better than last month."
You: "Yeah"
Them:...
You:....
Them:.....
You:......
Them:.....
You: "Did you know that shrimp can only swim backward?"
Them: "?!"

Tru Fax according to Snapple:

#1 A Goldfish's attention span is three seconds. (So is Jimmy Kimmel's. No wonder he looks like he was descended from a fish.)

#10 Mosquitoes are attracted to people who just ate bananas. (No wonder they bite me all the time!)

#12 Emus and Kangaroos cannot walk backward. (Yes, but can they jump backwards?)

#13 Cats have over 100 vocal chords. (And yet they cannot sing opera. Well, maybe they sing cat-opera. Hey, all that yowling behind the dustbins in the dead of night? Maybe that was the feline version of Carmen and they were all congregating to enjoy a night of cultured entertainment and not random rubbish-trawling, female-raping, territorial street fights after all! Sheesh, have we ever underestimated cats.)

#15 All porcupines float in water (Yes, but do they sting the fish?)

#19 Children grow faster in the spring. (But what if you live in a country that doesn't have spring? Like mine, for instance?)

#28 Chewing gum while peeling onions will prevent you from crying. (Now this one is useful!)

#29 On average a human will spend up to 2 weeks kissing in his/her lifetime. (But have you measured the amount of saliva transfer during that time?)

#31 The average human will eat an average of 8 spiders while sleeping. (Um. Ew. No. I'm a vegetarian.)

#33 Termites eat through wood two times faster when listening to rock music! (Wow, that's a lot of Led Zeppelin fans!)

#35 Elephants only sleep 2 hours a day.

#40 It is possible to lead a cow up stairs but not down. (Ergo, I am a cow.)

#41 Shrimp can only swim backward. (They skipped the classes on the other three strokes?)

#45 Elephants are capable of swimming 20 miles per day. (I can't even picture an elephant swimming, and I've been to the Pinnawala elephant orphanage three times and Yala once.)

#48 Cats can hear ultrasound. (What do you think, kitty? Is it a boy or a girl?)

#50 Mosquitoes have 47 teeth. (Okay, that one blew me away, because that means that somebody actually counted the suckers. Many times.)

#53 The average women consumes 6lbs of lipstick in her lifetime. (Yes, but does that count as calories and how fast can you burn 'em?)

#66 Americans on average eat 18 acres of pizza a day.

#68 The longest one syllable word is "screeched"

#70 A "jiffy" is actually 1/100 of a second.

#87 A mile on the ocean and a mile on land are not the same distance

#92 Fish can drown.

#94 Lizards communicate by doing push-ups.

#98 When the moon is directly over you, you weigh less

#99 You burn 20 calories an hour chewing gum

#102 A one-minute kiss burns 26 calories.

#103 Frowning burns more calories than smiling.

#154 Americans spend more than $630 million a year on golf balls. (Yes, but where are the golf balls?)

#163 The first penny had the motto "Mind your own business".

#168 One brow wrinkle is the result of 200,000 frowns. (Weight or wrinkles, that is the question.)

#169 The first human-made object to break the sound barrier was a whip

#173 Chinese is the most spoken language in the world. (Then how come it's also one of the most endangered?)

#174 The world's biggest pyramid is not in Egypt, but in Mexico.

#188 Antarctica is the driest, coldest, windiest, and highest continent on earth

#194 You don't have to be a lawyer to be a Supreme Court Justice. (I think I'd be more worried if you did have to be a lawyer to be a Supreme Court Justice.)

#195 Eleven of the fifty states are named after and actual person. (Um, let's see. Virginia, Carolina, Georgia, Louisiana, Dakota?, Indiana, Washington and I officially suck. Anyone else care to correct me?)

Ah. That's different. But I think the shot can still be given. Just have to use smaller dosages or something. I'm not sure, and it's moot in this case anyway.

Personally, I wish the people spreading these "facts" (I meant Snapple and such, but even more so about immunizations and autism) would take the time to check their sources first. Because if you tell people its true, invariably, some number of them will believe you. And I don't believe that any good comes of spreading falsehood.

I'm not sure about liquid level, either. Australia is largely desert. And Antarctica's glaciers are constantly melting, breaking up, and reforming. There's an annual cycle. Which means a fair amount of liquid water being around, at least seasonally.
