10 years ago I was: Eight. I can’t remember much about being eight. I associate Enid Blyton and Sweet Valley kids and Tin Tin with eight, but nothing really happened to me at eight. Which is definitely a good thing. Now being nine, I wish I could forget altogether. Features a horrible class teacher.

5 years ago I was: Thirteen. Man, that was the height of my Dork Ages. A fat, mousy bookworm in awful glasses and her school uniform belt falling above her stomach. Wasn’t a bad year though. I had a lot of friends. And it was the year I got to know about Harry Potter. My friend Manesha always had her nose buried in them and I just took one look at the cover and decided they were really too childish for somebody who had graduated from Enid Blyton a long time ago. I used to give her a lot of grief about it. Then one day, at the very end of the school year, I got so bored out of my mind, I just picked one up and began to read. And read. And read. The final bell rang just as Hermione said “Hagrid, you live in a wooden house!” . I was forced to wait another one and half months to finish the rest of the book but I was already deeply smitten. By the time school started next year, I was a committed Harry/Hermione shipper. That was before I read GoF, of course.

1 year ago I was: Seventeen and struggling with both my studies and my co-curriculars. Having decided that I’d had enough of the mousy-kid-whose-name-even-the-class-teacher-doesn’t-remember early that year, I suddenly became the Social Butterfly. I now wonder why I thought being a dweeb was such a bad idea. Having tried all the alternatives, such as Class Clown, Drama Freak, Da Cool Kid, Flirt, Nerd and Formidable Debator, I have now decided that dweeb-hood rulz! At least you get to keep up your grades. My latest role is Netspeak-Freak which one of my friends infected me with.

Yesterday I was: Oh God. Can we please not talk about yesterday?!  Fine.

Culmination of a three-day Junior Achievement workshop. We were to be interviewed for the Junior Achievement Annual Company awards. Went in at 8 o’clock in the morning, dressed to the nines, was interviewed at 10.30. In the night. In the Dark, Dank, Stormy, Murky, COLD night. Featured two sympathetic and impressed male judges and one tired and bitchy female judge. Went home at 11. Got home at 11.30. Had cold shower and passed out for my first real visit to the Land Of Nod in 48 hours. That’s right, I didn’t sleep a wink the preceding night because I was up finalizing my records. The only high point of the day was that I was able to exchange e-mail addresses with this guy I am totally ga-ga about. I don’t think he likes me except as a friend, but still, may be I can pull off a You’ve Got Mail! Although, Tom Hanks didn’t know who he was mailing. And I’ll never be gorgeous like Meg Ryan. Oh sod, boys!

5 snacks I enjoy: Woodapple and Orange juice (freshly squeezed!), Milo, Cream Soda, Coca cola. Or maybe  Pepsi, if I feel like doing that Bubbly commercial starring Shah Rukh Khan.

5 songs I know the words to: I hope you dance by LeAnn Womack, Travelling Soldier by the Dixie Chicks, I want to spend my lifetime loving you  by Mark Anthony and Tina Arena, Kal Ho Na Ho, Baate Meri Suniye  from Kuch na Kaho. That last one is quite an achievement for me, considering I don’t actually understand Hindi beyond the basics. Lucky my sis is fluent.

5 things I would do with one million dollars: Set up my own current account, set up trust fund for siblings, send the parents on that round-the-world cruise I keep promising them, buy the franchise of Cure Autism Now for Sri lanka and help set up an effective island-wide program to locate and educate autistic or mentally handicapped children.

Then, if I had any money left, I’m going on a shopping spree!

5 places I would run away to: I’ll just name the countries because the places are too numerous: Switzerland (Must see Alps!), Canada, Australia, Seychelles, Norway.

5 favorite TV shows: Lois and Clark ; the New Adventures of Superman, Gilmore Girls, 24, Charmed, Veronica Mars. And no I haven’t watched Veronica Mars. We don’t have cable. But I was so curious about what all the fuss was about, that I got down all the episode transcripts from TWIZ TV. It isn’t the same as watching it, I know, but the scripts do ROCK.

And yes, I have a Lois Lane fixation. Anybody else watched that show?

5 fictional characters I would date: James Potter, Harry Potter, Aragon, Legolas, Will from Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials.

5 people I tag to do this: [livejournal.com profile] missile_envy , [livejournal.com profile] ajroald , [livejournal.com profile] anotherdreamer5, [livejournal.com profile] cherrychalk , [livejournal.com profile] lolaleila , [livejournal.com profile] lady0fshalot (so I can't count. Sue me!)

I would so date Will ... he's so cute! I can't believe I forgot about him, despite having my "His Dark Materials" set right in front of me at the time! *bangs head on bedhead*

*jumps up and starts singing along to Baat Meriye Suniye* I love that song! And AB Baby was sooooo cute in that film ... *swoon* Have you seen the Lux advert with SRK? *swoons and dies* I love that man.

*pokes Hasini* Ooh, you got email address! Is this The Guy, or someone else? Ah, who cares who it is - you got his email add! *party* So ... when are you going to email him. And I hope you're catching up on sleep, sweetie. And of course you're as gorgeous as Meg Ryan! In fact, you're even more so *huggles to Hasini*

Naw, I haven't seen the Lux advert. Have you seen a Paheli-style Pepsi advert? My sis thinks she saw one once.
I am not going to mail him. It is bad enough that I had to go up to him and ask him for it with all his friends sniggering. HE will have to mail me. I mean, HE was the one who was so doggone enthusistic about staying in touch. And declared we were friends for ever! But then, he's a hyper-active individual who sounds like a personality development trainer. You can't believe half the stuff they say, but they sure sound good!

Of course I'm gorgeous! Who said I wasn't?! I Am SO Gorgeous! I have reams of guys knocking on my door!

Not.

There MAY come a day when I look in the mirror and feel my vanity satisfied, but now is not that time. *Long, loving hug to Paro* You haven't even seen me, and I won't have you bluffing during Ramadan. I always picture you as a very pretty person though, judging by your personality. Now, Sanjana looks exactly as she sounds, in her photos.

Lux advert = SRK in bath tub + looking sexy as hell + me swooning. He's the first male model for Lux, apparently.

Nope, haven't seen a Paheli-style Pepsi ad ... hold on, did you just say "Paheli-style"? *raises eyebrows* I'm having a hard time picturing that one ...

*giggles hysterically* I love reading your posts; they always make me laugh! If you leave all the hard work to the guys, nothing will ever get done because they're so idiotic but yet so damn good-looking ... but I agree wholly with you - if he's so enthusiastic and hyperactive and as good-looking as you say :P he should have the decency to email you first. Plus, guys are always the first to do stuff; it's tradition. This is coming from the world's biggest feminist, but I have to say you've got guts going up and asking him for his email. I'm so proud of you!

Friends forever, eh? *pokes Hasini* Ooh ... aren't you just the little guy-magnet? XD

I admire your modesty *snort* *hehe* Just kidding, I know you're gorgeous. After all, someone's who's as lovely as you can't be anything BUT gorgeous. :D *returns long loving hug* And I'm not bluffing; I wouldn't dare to! >< *blushes* Thank you; I feel so loved! *giggle* Sanjana definitely does look exactly as she sounds ... sweet, gorgeous, funny, and just a little bit hyperactive. Hyperactivity being a good thing, of course.

*love & huggles*

Aah! I wanted to tag YOU! Now why didn't I? Never mind. I'll just take Dasha off the list and tag you instead. This is not her sort of thing, anyway.

Har, har! YOU'RE TAGGED SISTAH!

I agree. Will is kinda like Harry, I thought, only burlier and more streetwise.

SRK IN BATH TUB?!! *fans self*
Er, but remember that scene in Yes Boss, where SRK and Johnny Lever are in the bath together, getting drunk, when their boss calls to tell them that his wife is making a beeline for Juhi? And SRK has to clamber out of the bath and wear one of Juhi's nightgowns?
I don't think i'll ever think of SRK in bath without picturing him in that flowery nightgown too.
I didn't see the ad but my sis said she caught a glimpse of SRK in a turban, stepping out of a Pepsi bottle.
Yeah. I am soo a guy magnet. *flutters lashes* And my great-grandmother was a turnip.
*blushes at Paro's comments*
Hmm, I haven't seen Sanjana's hyperactive side yet, but she has this cherubic face with a cheeky glint in her eye. Like a streetwise kid pretending to be a Shirley Temple. It's quite adorable.
You think MY posts are funny? You should check out Holly's a.k.a entirelytoo on LJ. She's completely hysterical! Her LJ should be published!
*Huggles, huggles and a lot more huggles to the lovely Princess Paro*

Just wait till you see him in this advert ... any thoughts of him wearing Juhi's nightgown will fly straight out of your head ... *swoons* That was actually a rather amusing scene.

*oi vay* SRK wearing a turban, stepping out of a Pepsi bottle? They may have taken this a little too far; shall have to search for the advert on the net later. *makes mental note*

*giggles & gives huge huggles to Hasini* You know, I saw a picture of Juhi earlier and you know who came to my mind first? You did! Since you've got her on your usericon, I just associate her with you now, and everytime I think of what you might look like I see Juhi in my mind. :D

I havent seen Sanjana's hypreactive side either, but that cheeky glint gives me the impression that she probably would be. She's so sweet. Although her face also gives a look that says "I'm smarter than you think". *grins*

*immense love and ENORMOUS huggles to the gorgeous Princess Hasini* I couldn't find a title beginning with "h" ... *looks sheepish*

*falls about howling with laughter at the thought of being associated with Juhi in looks department*
You know what? Hold that thought. I am not going to be the one to disillusion you!* falls off chair laughing all over again*
Well, I have come to associate you with Dia Mirza. She looks as sweet as you sound. I know she and Aish resemble one another, but I personally prefer Dia. Aish looks a little too... artificial and made-up these days. Dia looks very unaffected and natural and... fresh. So I tink of you when I see her. I'm sure you're a pretty person in real life too though? Why? Because you're Pakistani, and Pakistani women are generally very good-looking. It's genetic, the facial structure and complexion that the rest of the world has to sell their arm and legs to buy is laid at the doorstep of those who originated from your part of the world.
How unfair!
But nevermind. I know YOU deserve it.
Come on! Why not Her Highness Hasini?
*Hugs Paro impulsively* What an absolute darling you are!

Hey! I forgot to tell you. I'm going to pretend to be Muslim for a day. I mean I'm going to fast, and not swear nor and all the other stuff for twelve hours? Why? Because I'm VERY curious about it and my own powers of self-discipline. I went without eating breakfast a few days ago, and by midday I was half dead. What a sorry state of affairs! So I wanna see what it's like for all my Islamic friends who do this for this one month.
I mean, if they did it all year round or someting, I guess I could just say they're used to it, but people like my friend Sabiha are totally used to pigging out twenty times a day. And not swearing! All in all, it's like she's got a personality transplant, to her friends. No way in the world can this kid be our li'l lady dynamite!
So I'm thinking of doing it. It wouldn't be offensive or anything would it? Let me know, as soon as you can? I'd ask Sabiha, but nobody's picking up the phone and I don't have any other phone numbers of Muslim friends to consult with.

Don't laugh! It's true, and not just regarding your appearance; even your personality reminds me of Juhi. XD *giggles*

*blushes* You're too kind ... tis an enormously fabulous compliment, because I think Dia is just beautiful! It's lovely of you to say that, thank you! *huggles* I agree, Aish looks too made-up and I have an immense hatred for her attitude. Dia is much more friendly and genuine.

*smacks self upside head* How could I not have thought of that?! I'm a royal idiot *giggles hysterically at pun* Her Highness Hasini, it is, then ... all hail Her Highness Hasini! *world bows down to Hasini*

*gives Hasini huge hug* Thank you; you're a darling too! Let's be darlings together ... *grabs Hasini's hands and dances round in circle*

Nah, it wouldn't be offensive at all ... in fact, it's a good experiment! Good luck with fasting, and I hope you anjoy it as much as I do!

I hope I'm not being offensive, because I don't have any intention to be at all, but this thought came into my mind while I was reading your post: as a Muslim, if you were to give up swearing for just this month but go back to it once it was all over, wouldn't that be construed as hypocritical? Or maybe "hypocritical" isn't the right word, I'm not sure. I don't swear too much (just the occasional "bloody hell" here and there, sometimes accompanied by a "piss off"), but I just think that giving it up for this one holy month and then going back to it for the rest of the year is a bit ... wrong. Don't get me wrong, I don't mean to be offensive and I'm really sorry if it comes across that way, but my personal opinion is that your experience during Ramadan is supposed to encourage you to be a better person for the rest of your life, not just that month. Just a thought.

Righty-ho, a few tips so that you won't die ><:

Make sure you wake up before sunrise (just to be safe, wake up about an hour before) and have a nice, healthy breakfast so that you're not fasting on an empty stomach. There's nothing worse or more unhealthy than that - you need your energy for the day.

Try to keep as cool as possible throughout the day - it'll reduce your hunger a bit and you won't feel as thirsy.

I think that's all ... oh, and most importantly: enjoy it! I know it's easier said than done, but I always enjoy it and look forward to breaking my fast because of all the yummy things I get to eat >< Speaking of ... could I have the recipe for Watalappan? We're having an aftaari party at our house tomorrow, and I'd like to make it XD

Good luck, and have fun! *love and huggles*

I shall get the recipe from our maid and post it the minute i get back from classes. I'm not sure whether you can get all the ingredients though? Can you find fresh jaggery and coconut milk? Jaggery is the main ingredient, but I suppose you can substitute the cocnut milk with something else.. I'll ask and tell you.
No, you weren't offensive, I see your point. Sabee is a good kid and devout enough but she has been hanging around us for too long!We are all inveterate swearers.
Thanks loads for the tips. My parents think I won't last through lunch. How little faith they have in me!
Have fun at aftaari!
*blows kisses*
