Meet one of Bollywood's hottest starlets, Sonam Kapoor.

Who is she: Sonam Kapoor was formerly better known as nineties hearthrob Anil Kapoor's daughter, or "that fat little kid" who was a personal assistant to one of the most influential contemporary Bollywood directors, Sanjay Leela Bhansali (of Devdas fame). One day, luck and Mr.SLB smiled on her and, after losing 35 kgs in six months, she was cast in the lead role of his much-hyped 2008 musical Saawariya

The movie bombed at the box office, but the lead-couple had already caught the nation's attention. Sonam Kapoor, in particular, captured young girls' imagination with her ugly-fat-duckling-turned-55kg-swan story and became a beacon of hope for angsty overweight kids everywhere.

Right. So far so good.

Now meet her douchebag of a father, who decided to celebrate his daughter's 23rd birthday by buying her a sugarless cake.

"I thought I had slimmed enough. I lost 35 kgs before Saawariya. I’ve been constantly keeping my weight down. But I think Dad knows the other girls are looking very slim these days. It was his way of letting me know that I needed to get even thinner. A strange present on my birthday."

But Dad Anil Kapoor did make a ’weighty’ statement. Sonam has caught on. "I’m going on a diet. I need to get thinner to look comparable with the other girls. Look at Deepika. She’s athletic and slim. I’m not an athlete. But I’m a runner. I love to go on long runs all on my own for miles and miles. That is a sure way to lose weight."

Okay, so she's not starving herself, (at least I hope not) and she's going to use running as a weight-loss method. So what's the matter?

Well, this:

With dad prodding her into a fat-free awakening Sonam is about to lose more kilos. "I have to. It’s not a vanity. It’s for my sanity. I can’t be happy being healthy when the other girls are frantically losing weight. So thanks to my Dad I’m losing more weight."

This woman is a stunning 5 ft 9", 135 pound twenty-frikkin'-three year old. She's healthy, talented and beautiful. But she's still not going to feel good about herself till she turns herself into a rake. Why? Because she will go insane if she doesn't end up as anorexic as other girls!

Yes, Mr. Anil Kapoor, nothing says, "Happy Birthday to you, other girls aren't fat, why are you?" quite like a sugarless birthday cake.

I dunno about you, but I think birthdays are about celebrating the good things you have in life. Like the fact that you are not a diebetic, for example.

All this is rather ironic, given her fitness interview in Filmfare magazine. Note the last pearl of wisdom: Above all, always feel good about yourself no matter what size you are!

You clearly do practice what you preach, Miss Kapoor. Way to set a glowing example for all those teeny-boppers. Succumb to peer pressure and look like a barbecue stick, everyone!

In other news, you know the fairness cream companies have completely brainwashed India when they are allowed to do something like this: New Pond's White Beauty Advertisement Features Neha Dhupia Pwning Wheaty-Skinned Priyanka Chopra.

Observe Neha Dhupia, Miss India Universe 2002:

Observe Miss Priyanka Chopra, Miss World 2000 and a woman formerly touted as being "both brains and beauty".

Doesn't Priyanka's unattractively dark complexion set her miles apart from Neha Dhupia?

What? You don't think so? *shock*  *horror*

Let it also be noted that this is a wonderful way for two leading names in Bollywood to exploit the fawning masses. Saif Ali Khan cheerfully plays a dickhead who ditches his twu wuv because her skin tone turns him off and Priyanka Chorpa plays the bimbo who will bleach her face white to get him back. Very commedable, you lot. Catch me buying a single movie of yours again.

I'm serious. I'm so damn infuriated with this woman-hating industry that I feel like binning my entire collection of Bollywood DVDs. At least then I wouldn't have this collusion to stamp out any semblance of women's lib from the Eastern hemisphere on my conscience.

Listen up, you pea-brained bimbos. You wanna know who the most beautiful woman in Bollywood is?

Suck. It. Up.

Ahh I must say my respect for Anil Kapoor and the people participating in the Ponds ad has gone down sooooo much. WTFISWRONGWITHTHEM. And the Ponds ad is actually the exact same version of a chinese ad scene for scene. I don't know what companies are thinking trying to introduce such products - do they have no ethics? And on top of that famous actors agreeing to endorse the product is even more cringeworthy.

I don't mind the products. You wanna bleach your face white, go ahead. I take issue with their ad campaigns. They focus primarily on putting down women with naturally dark skin.

And they don't need to! A lot of women with naturally fairer complexions get sunburned, or become darker because of lack of skin care. Why can't these ads focus on women reclaiming their own natural complexions? Skin tones are such beautiful, veried things. I'm called fair, but I'm actually kind of yellow-tinged olive and my sister is called dark, but she actually has this exotic dusky matt complexion.

WTF is up with all these negative ad campaigns? How about ad slogan like "Rediscovering your natural glow" and teaching women to bring out the assets they already have, instead of trying to beat out other women? And are women really brainless enough to think that any amount of skin bleaching can give them Neha Dhupia's skin when genetics clearly dictate otherwise?

I can't believe internationally famous actors have the gall to be this politically incorrect on TV.

I know her! She's the one playing in Saawaryia, right? 'cause it's the latest Bollywood I watched! ;p

OMG! she most 35 kgs?! in 6 months?! WTF!! Did she ever consider putting her father on a fatening diet, just to get even? OTH, 55 fits her good.

But sweetless Bday cake = Heresy!!! Seriously takes the fun out of it. PLus if sugar taste was replaced by aspartam well, evben more damaging on health. Accept no substitute. heat what you want in reasonable amount and have sports! Take long walks, it's excellent for heart health and blood circulation. ;p

And Sugar = brain's fuel so...er...does she have an IQ death wish or what? or are Bollywood actresses just asked to be pretty in any outfit? ---> am a firm believer that any sugary stuffs eaten in the morning are non fatening 'cause your body's just waking up after a night sleep so, basically, food deprived for at least 6-7 hours and so...

JWM!!! *sorry! but I had some excruciating time going "I've seen that Most beautiful Bollywood woman before..." ;p

And, get your sis in front of screen. Done? OK. As a former model (but I didn't like feeling like a piece of meat) and thus, starved toothpick since 19, I can assure you: toothpick slim figure does nothing to your health 'cause: what d'you think happens? Well, when exhausted you catch every nasty bug or illness coming your way. Takes you much longer to recover 'cause your body's got no reserves and, frankly, men prefer a little curves, you know. Last but not least, you feel much better and peacefuler in your mind if you're not trying to fit your normal health body in a skeleton.

And you feeling better in your head also means you accept yourself as you are and feel good as you are thus love yourself and it'll show and the rest of the world (say Bollywood, too) will love you and, yeah. that's pretty much it.

So I'd say: be yourself, love yourself, do what you wanna do and

Plus not eating also wears your mental self. Food is grounding. First EiC I ever had told me to eat on order not to loose it in this (newspaper) job and, he was darn right. you wouldn't last a month otherwise. and I think, nowadays, such advice applies to any profession. Even students! ;p

"What you eat's your first medecine".

I think I disgressed a bit but, you get the idea. :p

Happy saturday! :)

PLus, if I may, don't trust an image 'cause, for a start this one:

Speaks of cheap beach photo background where actress probably never set a foot in and of said actress legs and arms photo reshaping, cut and digitally enhanced... It's very visible on the left side of her body (ah, they should have asked lefty me to do it! *g*) but righty part had the same treatment...

Oh, it's obviously been photoshopped. I just used it because it was a sexy pose and showed her skin color.

But Rani Mukerjee was not in JWM, Carole. That's Kareena Kapoor.

Rani was in Saawariya too (as the prostitute). It was so refreshing to see her lovely curves in that movie when every other actress is trying to be stick-thin. She is my favourite actress.

Hey, you were a model? Cool! Or...not. *LOL* I always thought I'd like to model, but my parents didn't like it and I would never have letmyelf become a toothpick. Sri Lankan models, though, I will say prefer some flesh on their bones.

"What you eat's your first medecine".

WORD. =D

Oops! I so thought she was, too. Kareena Kapoor... my facebook profile will never forget me that one! ;p

Oh yeah! knew I saw her face before. I think she was a breeze of fresh air in the whole movie... If you allow me, that is. Honestly, she was!

Hey, you were a model? Cool! Or not!

Or not.

Yeah, not too long, thank goodness! But, I had this Uni friend who was modeling UAE's Naf Naf figure and under Karin Models at the time, at a point I though: "objectively, if she was a model, I can do it". And you know, you're 20 and tv at the time keeps telling you only models are beautiful and you think "hey! that'd be fun!" And keep in mind I was really not at all self confident at the time. So asked her what she thought: and she gave me tips and said: "hey! Am modelling for wedding dresses this WE. Why don't you come along. I'll ask designer and my coach what they think. Not saying you'll catwalk but, give it a shot, you know?"

And I catwalked. And it was fun. but, well, I like to think I also have brains, you know. Which is why, after a while, I opted for University and actually getting my degrees. 'cause Model at 20, retired at 30. So destroyed the wedding dresses pics and model Book my mum dod me. Regretted it afterwards, not 'cause I could've gone "hey! look how pretty I was!" but 'cause my mum really was supportive at the time and, she took those pics and put her heart in it for me and well... Mean Carole.

Sri Lankan models, though, I will say prefer some flesh on their bones.

Praise Sri Lankan models! :)
