Sri Lanka celebrated her 60th Anniversary of Independence the day before yesterday. Here is Prabhakaran's gift to the nation:

Bomb Blast at Fort Railway Station

Death Toll  rises; nine schoolchildren killed

Last rites for Slain Baseball Team Today.

Tigers and tears have no regard for race.

I have many friends from D.S Senanayake College. I can't imagine what they must be going through. It could very easily have been any of my own friends on that platform. It could have been me.

This was the terrorist group that George Bush, Eric Solheim and Ranil Wickramasinghe wanted to make us to make peace with. George Bush announced his stand while he was dropping bombs on Afghanistan hoping to hit at least Osama Bin Laden's pet dog, if he had one, and Ranil Wickramasinghe bought peace talks to the table only months after the Tigers reclaimed the Elephant Pass, killing over a 1000 Sri Lankan soldiers. I wish it were their dead bodies on that platform instead of innocent school kids.

Who is the LTTE?

You don't negotiate with monsters. You hunt them down and kill them until there isn't a single one of them left to spawn another.

I don't believe there is a God, because if there is, animals like these wouldn't be allowed to live.

We're nowhere near China, Carole.

You should watch Rang De Basanti. It's a great movie, which would've been an awesome movie if not for the second half. It's one of a kind, really. Only, they had to go all Bollywood and irrational at the end. It's a tragic film, with a curveball ending that the light-hearted first half of the movie leaves you completely unprepared for. It shouldn't have been tragic. But you should definitely give it a watch.

I'm reccing you the following movies. Most Aamir Khan movies of this decade are must-sees. Despite the hype surrounding Shah Rukh Khan, it's Aamir who is actually the better and more versatile actor, one of the few left who treats his acting like a craft.

1. Dil Chahta Hai.
2. Mangal Pandey: The Rising.
3. Rang De Basanti.
4. Taare Zameen Par.

Dil Chahta Hai is my favourite movie of these and was what got me hooked on Bollywood in the first place. He started the trend in unconventional film-making. If you have time (and money) check out his earlier work in Earth and Sarfarosh.

Oddly enough, the one year his movie received more hype than SRK's, was the one I didn't like. India went wild over Lagaan, which I could barely make myself sit out till the end, and SRK's movies Asoka and Chalte Chalte did only averagely. Now for me, Chalte Chalte is one of the cutest romantic films to come out of Bollywood and Asoka is an epic where both SRK and Kareena Kapoor deliver their finest performances to date. If it were me I'd have sent Asoka to the Oscars rather than Lagaan.

I know. I did a post on the war and now I'm talking about movies. I am a deeply superficial person. But it's a relief to take my mind off things, esp when I have no control over them. =)

oops!

for a moment I placed you in India. Sorry about that. My mind's been weird tday. I blame it on spending the whole day online (which I usually don't do) trying to redownload reinstall that f*cking msn messenger.

since I can be superficial and switch subjects in a snap, I failed miserably at downloading thus reinstalling which means am cut off the world (at least my friends and falmily world) and I miss chats treribly and makes me feel even more miserable *heavy choking, sniffing, chokin. pityfull isn't it?*

And you're a movie fan, too! ah, finally someone who enjoys life in technicolor! (HD, THX, whatever) ;)

WOW! avidely notes recommanded movies. Am gonna have to save some money. Or maybe open a bollywood specialized movie store to feed this addiction! *g*

SRK (and Ash for female leadings) is the only bollywood actors whose movies made it to french movie theaters so far but, I'll welcome any change more than willingly since I think it's starting monotonious getting to know Bollywood that way. It's like: "oh! a new Bollywood movie. I don't know the title but lemme guess: it's the one with SRK and Ash!" and then the cashier fgirl would go: "oh yeah! one Bollywood for you!" pityful!

So Rang de Basanti I guess the only place where I could find it would be la Fnac bollywood section. they're the only one to actually propose Bollywood movies with *others* actors. There's also Wednesday market at my cousins: there's a guy there who sells the last bollywood dvds (some aren't even out in french stores nor on dvd yet): that's where I got "provoked" and "gangster" and "the last legion" with Ash and Colin Firth. And maybe I'll stop balbing now. ;p
