I forgot to tell y'all. I went to see Iron Man yesterday, right after the entire rest of the world, but whatever. Yep, pretty much what you guys said.

Subtle political messages: Exellent! Training exercises FTW!

Rhodes and Stark: Aww. Air plane strip club for two ROTFLMAO!

Pepper: I know that was Paltrow, y'all, but bejesus if she didn't look like Kirsten Dunst in another ten years. I likey. An unconventional heroine. Hope she ends up with Stark, despite the whole Wendy-to-Peter-Pan complex they've got going there. Of course, there's already a fandom, a Tony/ Pepper ship which is called - *drumroll* - PEPPERONY! What else would it be called, seriously?

Stane: The villain is always the white bald guy with the white beard. Baldie = BADASS! Samuel L. Jackson to testify!

J.A.R.V.I.S: Is the secret love child of Alfred and K.I.T. Yeah!

Iron Man suit: AWESOME. Birdman and the Silver Hawks are kinda pissed off about it though. Patent infringement and all that.

Robert Downey Jr: Let me quote Marc Fennell of Triple J radio station : "There were two perfectly good movies in Iron Man. The first is the superhero flick... But then there's the other movie: made entirely out of Robert Downey Jr. being awesome".

WORD, my friend, WORD. Ladies and Gentlemen, the new Johnny Depp! He even has the moustache and the penchant for lawless living and debauchery to prove it.

Verdict: Wheee! What a ride! Wanna go agin, wanna go agin, wanna go agin!

You know Stane is a villain from the comics, right? And that Iron Man comics predate Silver Hawks, and quite possibly Birdman.

But... Holy crap. There's someone else in the world who knows/remembers Silver Hawks? Wow. I used to love that show, back when I was a kid, too young to notice the entirely formulaic nature of the eps. (Though old enough to recognize that it used the same voice cast as the exponentially awesomer Thundercats, which occupied the previous timeslot.)

BTW, in the comics, Jarvis is an Alfred-like, perfectly human butler.

Also, KITT is spelled with two Ts. Knight Industries Two Thousand.

Another bit of random trivia... There's a scene where Rhodey is on the phone, and they zoom in on him and you can see his hand... That's an MIT class ring he's wearing. Couldn't see what year (it's redesigned every year by a committee from the class that's going to wear it), but the details I saw were right. That was a quiet little squee! moment for me.

Anyway, yeah... awesome movie. :)

You're a baldie? Yes, well, you are pretty badass, in a nerdy kinda way. *pets you*

But you're right. Don't grow a beard. IT WILL TURN YOU EVIL!

You didn't know?

Halloween '99. (Do they have Mr. Clean there?) I've lost some weight since, but otherwise look pretty much the same.

Self-portrait for a meme last year. Check out my mad MS Paint skillz, yo!

Something a little more recent (and badass, thanks to awesome overcoat power...)

Beard, however, is not very likely to happen. I've been bald since I hit my teens. (Was really sensitive about it, which is indirectly how I became HatMan.) I don't even have eyelashes. There's one short, stubborn little hair on my chin, and that's all I'm ever likely to have.

Visited link color is, IMO, too close to the regular text color. Too easy to miss that they're there if I'm skimming along. But it's your journal. If you're happy with it, then of course that's all that counts.

I didn't know that Iron Man predated the Silver Hawks, but it sounds logical, considering that Iron Man initially battled the Evol Commie Bastards. *roll eyes*

Of course, I remember Silver Hawks. You couldn't forget a cartoon with that catchy a soundtrack. Used to watch it when I was little. Thundercats too. Another catchy soundtrack. Great cartoon. They don't make 'em like that anymore. My favourite was Chitara.

Hmm, I prefer J.A.R.V.I.S. Otherwise, it'd be too Bruce Wayne. You know what that stands for, right? Just A Rather Very Intelligent System. Which makes no fucking sense, but... SQUEE!

Ah yes. K.I.T.T. I knew this. *is a bad Knight Rider fan*

Re the ring - apparently since Tony Stark is also said to be an MIT graduate, the MIT class ring on Rhode's finger is a hint that they were college buddies together. At least according to Wikipedia.

You know, MIT might be the largest concentration of high-powered grey matter in that hemisphere. It's like a high-nutrition zombie banquet.

Iron Man dates back to the early 60s or thereabouts, along with most of Marvel's lineup. Started with the Fantastic Four, and then things took off with Hulk, X-Men, Spider-Man, Iron Man, and a bunch of others (not necessarily in that order). Lara pointed out that there was even a '66 animated series.

And yes, Silverhawks had a very catchy soundtrack. Gotta give 'em that. And awesomme look. Just wish they'd done more with the concept.

And no, they don't make 'em like Thundercats anymore. My favorite, of course, was Panthro (ingenuity!), but Cheetara was pretty cool, too. (Actually, she's kind of hot. And able to move from room to room at incredible speed. And the only adult female in the group - the last surviving adult female, as far as they knew. All of which goes to say... "I'll show you a Thundercats Ho!" Oh no, he di'nt!)

I suspect that the Bruce Wayne overlap (probably exactly why Jarvis the human butler was created in the first place) is precisely why he became J.A.R.V.I.S. in the movie. As for the acronym, no I didn't know/remember that. Kind of hard to fit words to it, since they already had the name and spelling. I kind of like it. "Oh, it's nothing much, really. Just a rather... very intelligent system." "Thank you, sir. I think."

Yes, it was mentioned during Tony's intro at the awards ceremony that he was an MIT grad. So yes, I picked up on the implied college buddies connection when I saw Rhodey's brass rat. But then, I have reason to notice MIT-related things.

Largest in the hemisphere? CalTech might disagree with you on that, but I won't. (Of course, MIT has Harvard next door, but we make up for it as best we can... ;) )

Love your description, tho. That's great. XD

(And that, ladies and gentlemen, is an historic first! My first usage ever of the XD emoticon! A good thing? Or another step on the road to corruption? You decide!)

Oh, I'm not concerned about my reputation. Whatever gave you the impression that I have any sense of shame?

But there's something different about XD. It's not like other emoticons. It's a step down a certain path. I don't really know how to express it...

Oh well.

It's a great movie! I saw it at a drive-in (we have one of the last within forty minutes of our apartment) paired with Speed Racer.

The voice of Jarvis was the actor who played the Doctor in "Master and Commander" - which explains why I found his voice so sexy.

Speed Racer sucks - the story falls flat, the special effects during the one race sequence will cause seizures and the actor who plays Speed couldn't be more wooden than if he was Hayden Christiansen.

And I get to see it again! Friday the drive-in is putting it as the second film with Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull! Two great films for seven dollars US and we get to bring in our own popcorn and drinks!

Thanks for the heads-up a Speed Racer. I'll stick to the cartoon, thanks.

Hey, did you know that some of the Indiana Jones movie was filmed in Sri Lanka? Apprently, there are people speaking in Singhalese in it! And nobody ever knew! *is mad* Unfortunately, I'm not an Indie fan.
