ladymirth: (self-destruct)

NaNoWriMo starts tomorrow. York U wants all my supplementary documents in by Monday. My mid semesters start on Tuesday.

I have no plot for NaNo, nor have I any desire to write. I can't go to school to arrange for my academic transcripts to be shipped because I have the stomach flu and have been flat on my back for the past 36 hours and will continue to feel like roadkill for the foreseeable future. I can't study because I can't focus and I'm not allowed to take my anti-depressants till my stomach flu clears up.

Sometimes, (supposing all that karma shit is true) I wonder what I might have done in a past life to deserve this. Did I pinch toddlers? Con little old ladies out of their life savings? Drown kittens? WHAT?

Think of it this way: you'll get better, eventually.

Do whatever you can to get what needs to be done finished. You'll feel better if you can get it off your mind. Take it from me in my peculari position: professional college student--I've been enrolled in one degree program or another for ten years now--and a full-time professor. Sometimes you have to tell yourself, "I feel like shit right now, but I have to get this done." Or "I have so much to do that I'm not possibly going to finish my dissertation this semester, even if it costs me another $4000 to delay it until next semester." You have to make decisions and take responsibility, even if that means taking responsibility for not getting things done.

And although I can't assume we have any philosophical background in common, I find this more comforting than karma: "The rain falls on the just and the unjust." Add to that more colloquial wisdom: "When it rains it pours."

As for NaNoMo, that is not something that should stress you out. You have no obligation to anyone except yourself to do it, and you will understand if it doesn't work out. And it lasts a whole month, so if you get anything written in that time, it's an accomplishment.

Can't spell, especially sad for an English professor. Have had too much to drink in order to try to manage stress. Sorry :-(

I'll go one better. I can't even tell which words you misspelt. Of course, I too am rather high right now. XD

This is the best advice I've had all week. I tend to coddle myself too much. You're right. It's time I took some responsibility. Thanks, Faye!
